What’s Going To Happen in 2023?

My mom made a New Year’s cake! Just look at the cake, not all the rest of the junk around it…

I personally cannot believe it’s 2023. The years move fast nowadays! 2022 was a big year for me and my family: we moved, had a new addition, and generally had to learn how to balance our finances in a way that benefited us (we’re still working on that part). Becoming a mother was definitely the highlight of my year last year, but there were other good moments, like going wedding dress shopping with my best friend and celebrating my other best friend’s 30th birthday.

I have no idea what 2023 will bring for me. I don’t do New Year’s Resolutions because I usually do not fulfill them. However, I like to brainstorm about what I could do going into the new year and hopefully see it through. I’ve not got a whole lot of plans for myself, but I do have some general ideas!

Money Money Money

One thing I’ve continued to do is try to be better with my money. In my early 20s, as most millennials I know do, I spent money like crazy! Wracking up debt probably wasn’t the smartest thing in the world, but now I’m here. One thing I’d like to do is pay off more of my debts this year. Last year I took a hit from Olivia’s birth (gotta love the American Healthcare System), so I’d really like to clear that debt off and then some.

Luckily, I’ve been serving at the same restaurant for going on 7 years. I know a lot of people, and almost everyone that walks in wants to sit in my section. It can be stressful sometimes but I love my job and the people I meet because of it. I feel like this year, I could really get a good chunk of debt paid off because of my skills on the dining room floor.

We’ve also got a few things that are about to be paid off, namely Matt’s car. I know as soon as some of those things are paid off we’ll be able to put more towards the bigger debts we have as a family. Wish us luck!! Our goal is to start saving to move into a more permanent location to grow our family. I really hope we can start saving more this year so that we can do just that.

Good Momma

Another thing I want to improve on is being a mother. Yes, I think I’m a pretty good mom to Liv, but I know I can improve and be a great mom as she gets older! Since Olivia is going into her sixth month, I think things are about to get even more exciting around the Golubich home.

Olivia is so bright and so much fun, and getting to know her little personality has been so fulfilling. Knowing that she’s going to be able to crawl soon makes me nervous but I know I’ll be able to adapt to her newfound mobility. I want to be able to introduce her to new foods as well…she already hates green beans, but there’s so much more to eat! Mealtime has been an adventure already. I know it’s going to ramp up soon once more foods are introduced.

I also want to make sure she’s healthy. Right now, she’s got a pretty nasty cold. It’s the first time she’s been sick enough to make life a little harder, and I’ve realized my patience is saint-like now that I’ve been dealing with a sick baby for the past few days. Obviously I can’t keep her 100% healthy 100% of the time, but I think I can do a better job at realizing when she’s not feeling well.

All in all, I want to be a better mom to Olivia. I’m still learning and luckily I’m still loving my new role in life. There is always room for improvement, however, and I want to be the best I can be for my little Liv!

Oh Yeah, I Have A Husband Too

Matt and I have fallen into Mom and Dad pretty easily…but we’ve kind of forgotten how to be husband and wife! A big goal of mine is to spend more time with Matt, with and without Olivia. We’ve gotten into a routine that’s not super healthy for our marriage, and I want to get better at hanging out with my husband again! I miss that guy!

Of course, life changes when you have a baby. It’s harder to have time as a couple when the baby needs tending to. We have a huge support system, though, and I plan to utilize it more so that Matt and I can spend time together. It’s important to spend time with your person!

All together, I think it’ll be a good year. 2022 was a year full of ups and downs. I’m hoping that 2023 is fruitful and kind, and I can start getting my ducks in a row to be a better version of me!

Thanks for reading everyone! I know I kind of use this blog a little bit like a diary, so thanks for reading my thoughts. I’m hoping you have a great New Year, and you get to meet all your goals and resolutions as well!

Feel free to follow me on Twitter and subscribe to me here on Medium to be up to date on my posts. I’ve got a few short story ideas in mind for the next few weeks, so here’s hoping I’ll have time to get them all out. In the meantime, thanks again for reading! I’ll see you next week with something new!
