Okay, Listen…: Plant Room Update
I, uh, haven’t done anything in the Plant Room this month.
Before you say anything, though! Let me explain…
I have been planning and planning so much for this plant room, but when I found out I was pregnant, all planning stopped. A week later, I lost said pregnancy. Not only did nothing in the plant room get done, but nothing in the house got done, either. My mood just didn’t allow for me to function outside of going to work and coming home. I’ve only recently started thinking about getting back into the room to move stuff around and put my energy into getting my house back in order.
While the house is slowly but surely getting clean, the Plant Room has been pretty neglected. I still have the mop and bucket from the last time I cleaned in there!! In fact, the last time I went in there was to get my spider-mite infested caletha away from the rest of my plants (she has since recovered, but barely!!).
Even though I haven’t done much of anything since the last time I wrote about it, the Plant Room is still something I want to see finished. Now that I’m through the intense emotions of the summer, I’m hoping I can throw myself fully into making a room that is a sanctuary for not just me, but anyone who needs a little break from the pains of real life!
I decided to not restain my Papa’s old dresser like I’ve been wanting to. It’s mostly because I knew it would be a huge project, which meant I’d be learning how to do a brand new activity on something very sentimental to me (so if I ruined it, I would lose my mind!). Instead, I’m going to put it back together and set it up so that it’s in the center of the east wall to get as much sun as possible for the plants!
Along with Damian’s old dresser, I have my painting desk that I want to move into the room as well. Since there will be three semi-large surfaces in this tiny Plant Room, I’m wondering how else I can arrange my plants besides on top of said surfaces. I have tons of wall space and two shelves that I bought but never put up, so smaller plants, as well as propagations, will probably live on the walls. I’ve liked the idea of a Propagation Station for a while, and turning a wall into one has been done many times before. I love the idea of functional decor, so a wall-mounted Propagation Station is most likely going to happen!
Of course, last time we talked about the Plant Room I gave you all the rest of my ideas. Did they happen? Not quite yet. “Yet”, however, is the key word. Before the year is over, I will turn Damian’s old room into the Plant Room. I made this blog to hold myself accountable to make myself write at least once a week, so sharing my plans, future successes, and current setbacks with this Plant Room once a month helps keep the thought in the back of my mind. Simplifying the process by cutting out learning how to stain wood (and probably just putting decorations and plants on the walls instead of painting them) has made the finished project more acheivable in my mind. With that in mind, the only thing left to do is actually set the plan in motion!
Thanks for reading, as always! Hopefully next Plant Room Update I’ll be able to share more of what I’ve done as opposed to what I haven’t done yet. In the meantime, follow me on Twitter if you’d like to know when I post next! In the meantime, I’ll be moving things around, hopefully to show you a much more exciting update next month!
