October 2022
Hello everyone! For the first time in a long time, this month felt long. It was a good month, even though not a lot happened! It was mostly just work, take care of Liv, (try to) sleep, repeat. It’s been interesting to see how life has evolved since having Olivia; usually I have a Halloween party or two to talk about, and usually I have some sort of tradition for Samhain, but this year I’ve been so busy being Momma that I kind of forgot about Mary! Either way, I have some stuff to talk about. Let’s get into it!
Chizz Turned 30
This year for my friend Cheyenne’s birthday, she had a “Death To My 20s” birthday party, which was perfect because it is Spooky Season and fit the theme perfectly. Everyone dressed up like we were at a funeral (I think some people came in their Halloween costumes as well, which was fun) and we mourned the loss of Cheyenne’s youth. It was a fun party!
Well, it was fun until I got too inebriated. Ya girl threw up in bed. Matt was the MVP of the night, taking care of both me and our daughter. What a guy.
Even though I had to call it early because of my hubris, I still had a lot of fun at her party! A lot of people also met Olivia, which was pretty cool. She was definitely overstimulated, but she went to bed before everyone really got there and got too rowdy. I think she did an awesome job around everyone! She didn’t cry a whole lot, and she was very polite (or, as polite as a baby can be).
Month Three With Olivia
Speaking of Olivia, she turned three months this month! It’s been a rollercoaster of a month with Little Liv. As all people do, she has good days and bad days. She has trouble taking naps, which is something that blows my mind. I love naps! I want to nap all the time, everyday. To think that kids hate naps is unreal to me.
Since she doesn’t nap a whole lot, I try to play with her a bunch until it’s time to eat, then I try to make sure the room isn’t too stimulating so she’ll fall asleep. She seems to nap better with me compared to Matt, but he can get her swaddled for bed better than I can so she actually stays asleep when he puts her down for the night. Sometimes I worry about her sleeping through the night, but she wakes me up at least once more often than not so I try to not worry too much.
She’s drinking exactly how much milk she’s supposed to, give or take a few ounces a day. She can roll from her stomach to her back, but not back over to her stomach as well. I think she’ll be able to soon! She’s also figuring out what her hands and legs do, which has me thinking she’ll be trying to crawl soon…How exciting (and terrifying)!
One thing that has me really excited is that we think she’s in the beginning stages of teething! She drools SO much, and cries randomly unless we put a teether in her mouth. She won’t hold the thing and use it correctly, but she will hold onto it and chew if you hold it up to her. It’s convenient that she’s beginning to grow teeth right before the time she’s supposed to be eating real food. In a month, she’ll be eating solid foods for the first time, so I think that’ll be a whole new experience for her…good thing she’ll have a tooth handy to help!
Music Obsessions
I straight up don’t have to say anything else: Rihanna has new music out! Why aren’t you listening to “Lift Me Up” on repeat?!
Obviously, I’ve been listening to Rihanna’s new song a lot since it came out. Matt Watson’s debut album was supposed to come out on the same day, but the various streaming services wouldn’t upload it for whatever reason, so it comes out in November. His new song, “STARSTUD”, is really great! If the rest of the album comes out sounding like that, I think he’ll have a great debut.
Olivia hates car rides, but hates them less when 90s and early 2000s rock is playing, so I threw some of that on this playlist as well. “Unholy” by Sam Smith has been in my head nonstop (especially when I’m trying to go to sleep), so I put that on there. And of course, “Poland” is Lil Yachty’s best song ever (both ironically and unironically tbh) so you know that’s on there.
The rest of the playlist is just stuff that I’ve been hearing on shuffle, or stuff that I figured would be good for Spooky Season! If you’d like to listen, click here!
It was a slow month, but not too much happened out of the ordinary. Sometimes I wish I had more to talk about when it came to these monthly updates, but then I realize that I’m still adjusting to being a mother, so every day doesn’t have to be some bombastic day. It’s okay to just work and come home to my family!
Feel free to follow me on Twitter for everyday Maryisims. Subscribe to me here on Medium if you’d like to as well! I post here every Monday, and then link to it on Twitter so there’s no way you’ll miss an update. Me missing an update? Now that’s a different story…
Thanks for reading, as always! I’ll see you here next week with something new!
