October 2021
Hello everyone! October has been quite the busy month for me. With work, housekeeping, and finding time for myself, I’ve felt like this month has just been blink and you miss it fast. Fall is my favorite time of year, but since I’ve been so busy with life I haven’t gotten to enjoy it as much as I’d like. I’m hoping I’ll be able to find time before it gets too chilly outside!
In the meantime, let’s get into what I’ve been into this month!
Pumpkin Time
Earlier in the month, my sister and I went with our significant others to the pumpkin patch! Lynd’s Fruit Farm is where we usually go, and this year was no exception. We admittedly didn’t spent too long there, mostly because Matt and I were hungover from a wedding…but we still had fun seeing my sister and her boyfriend! We found some pretty good pumpkins and got to shop at the store they have that’s full of local goodies.
Once we got our pumpkins, we sat them on the front porch. We were going to carve them and such, but they are still on the front porch, chillin’. Something tells me they’re going to sit there for a long time after Halloween!
Want a Tattoo? That’s Too Damn Bad!
Ever since Damian’s passing, I’ve wanted a tattoo to commemorate his life. I’ve been going back and forth on a design for a while, and finally I came up with a (badly drawn) concept of it! I’ve been looking for great tattoo artists in general for future projects, and I found one that I really, really wanted to do my Damian tattoo. When they opened their books up for the next few months, I threw my hat in, hoping that I’d get put on at least the waitlist. Unfortunately, I didn’t! They decided not to work on my tattoo. It’s okay that they didn’t want to take my project on, but it’s still disappointing!
Of course, getting denied means I can save money for my next attempt at finding a tattoo artist. I can also fine tune my idea to make it better, saving me money and time in the long run! I know a few tattoo artists personally, and I know of other artists that I’m interested in as well that could tackle my Damian tattoo. I’m just hoping I can get on someone’s books at some point!
This Date is Sponsored By…
Right when the weather started to turn more Fall-y, Matt and I got to redeem my prize from Make It Posh Picnics! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, last month I won contest for a free picnic experience from Make It Posh Picnics. I had been looking forward to it ever since, and it didn’t disappoint!
Being able to truly focus on both Matt as well as my own relaxation was so nice. We sat underneath a tree in Schiller Park and people watched while eating sushi and listening to the Vaporwave playlist on Spotify. It was honestly so chill! It’s been a long time since Matt and I have been able to have a meal together without too many distractions, and I loved the “Alone Time” we got because of this prize (technically there were SO many people at the park, but it felt like it was just the two of us!).
The whole thing was so nice that I’m kind of thinking of suggesting Make It Posh for all my friends planning bridal/baby related parties. Their prices are a little high for my personal budget, but I think split between people it would be worth the price, for sure!!
Spooky Shopping with the LBrands Wives
This past week, I went to a small event called Haven Hocus Pocus at the Haven Collective. The event was kind of like a woman owned Maker’s Market, with dozens of women selling handcrafted items, spooky baked goods, and various other items. I met a woman who gave me tips on my new hobby of clay earring making (more on that later), I met a woman who made my little shopping heart dreams come true when I bought my Cat Saftey Keychain (I’ve always wanted one), and I met SO many other women who were so excited to share their stuff with everyone. I bought a lot of jewelry, and I won a candle in a raffle. It was fun!
I went with my friends Cheyenne and Lacey, whose husbands also work with Matt! It was fun to hang out with them without the boys around, and I’m thankful to them both since they got me out of the house for the evening! I always have fun with the two of them, and this event was no exception. I’m hoping that the three of us are able to get together again soon and hang out. The three of us get along so well, it would be ridiculous not to!
Being Hella Creative
I’ve been wanting to make stuff more lately, so I got on Pinterest to see what new hobbies I could dabble in. As a result, I’ve been watching and learning a lot about clay earring making! Apparently so are a LOT of other people, as the clay most people buy to start is completely sold out almost anywhere you go.
I’m mostly going into it knowing that I’m going to have a new clutter-based hobby that might be dropped at any moment…but if I end up making some cool earrings, I might give them to people! Maybe I’ll even sell some if I get good enough. For now, however, I’m having fun with the learning process. It’s a little frustrating because I can barely find any clay, but I think finding and buying clay in colors that I wouldn’t normally buy makes it exciting to learn and experiment with.
Besides that, I’ve also been painting a lot. I bought a notebook at the end of September and decided that I’d paint every page. Starting on October 1st, I’ve been painting a picture everyday. Sometimes I have an idea, sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I paint how I’m feeling, or what the weather looks like. It’s been fun coming up with something new every day and making it happen! My only issue is my impatience while waiting for paint to dry. I’m sure I could find some quick dry paint, but that’s not my style. I’d like to think my messy streaky paintings are my art style…that’s how I justify my impatience, anyway!
After October is over, I’m still going to have a lot of pages in my notebook leftover. I’m probably going to fill the rest of the book with paintings, but idk if I’ll still share them after October is over. I guess we’ll find out!!
Music Obsessions
This month saw the return of Adele. She releases her newest album, “30”, on November 19th and I am more than ready to dive deep into it! Her lead single from the album, “Easy On Me”, admittedly isn’t my favorite…but I love the lyrics, since they deal with her feelings about her recent divorce. The entire album is about the divorce, and I think it’s going to be amazing regardless of how I feel about the first single. It IS Adele, after all.
I feel like I talk about Matt Watson in every post, but my dude keeps putting out good songs, so I keep talking about him! His recent single, “Monopoly”, just dropped a week ago and it’s on constant repeat. I like when he makes more “serious” music (instead of his comedy-based music with Super Mega), and this instrumental plus his simple, catchy lyrics give me exactly what I’m looking for from a Matt Watson single.
FrankJavCee released a new single as well, featuring Marion Amira and Hi, I’m Chris called “Quit” that is just as catchy and fun as you’d expect a FrankJavCee song to be. Besides that, I’ve put songs that remind me of Spooky Season as well as some new-to-me songs. I also put “Chamakay” by Blood Orange on the playlist specifically because it came on shuffle the other day and I fell in love with it all over again. I’d suggest listening to it on a wet and cloudy mid-morning while standing outside. It’s a whole vibe.
If you’d like to listen to the playlist for the month, click here! I’ve also added a few more songs to my ever-evolving vampire inspired playlist, “Vampire Music” over the past year. Feel free to check it out here if you’d like! I usually curate my playlists to flow a certain way, but “Vampire Music” is meant to be listened to on shuffle.
November is coming and I’m very excited to eat everything in sight on Thanksgiving! It’s my favorite holiday! I’m preparing for another busy month. The holidays mean that I’m going to be spending a lot of time with loved ones. I’m usually admittedly under excited until the day of to see people, but after the pandemic messed up holidays pretty bad in 2020, I’m honestly very excited to see everyone this time around!
I’m hoping that Halloween is fun and sexy for everyone who’s celebrating, including myself! I also hope the kids in my neighborhood take all this candy out of my house on Trick or Treat night so Matt and I can stop pretending not to eat it every time we pass the gigantic bag of it in the kitchen. Feel free to follow me on Twitter and subscribe on Medium to stay up to date with my posts, and I’ll see you all here next week with something new!
