Naps

What cruel irony it is, to hate naps when we’re young and full of energy, yet crave them as we grow old and weary.

While Olivia fights tooth and nail to stay awake, I beg her to lay down for just a few hours, minutes even, so that I can as well. I look down at her red, crying face and I wonder if one day she’ll be staring down at her daughter begging her to lay down and sleep so that she can go rest herself.

I love naps. I don’t remember when I decided I loved them, but now I cherish the time I have to lay down and sleep just a little while. Before Olivia, I only took naps when I couldn’t go on any longer. When I was pregnant, I took at least one nap every day. Now, I want to nap all the time…but I have a seven month old who’s teething and HATES naps.

I can’t lay down with her because she won’t relax enough anymore. Plus, I’m paranoid about rolling over onto her! If I’m lucky, Matt will take over with Liv while I nap away, but for the most part, coffee has been my friend since her arrival. One day, she’ll be big enough to know naps are cool and want to take one with me…for now, I stay awake, longing for a reprieve from the day.

Hello everyone! I woke up from a nap to write this! Olivia was still sleeping, so I figured I had the time. If you liked what I wrote today, feel free to follow me here and on Twitter.

I’ll see you here next time with something new! For now, it’s time to wake the baby for dinner!
