March 2021

From one of our many walks.

Hello everyone! March has shaped up to be a long, happy month. I can’t begin to describe just how nice it feels to walk around in the spring weather! Although this coming week is supposed to be a cold, dreary one, I’m still happy that better, warmer weather isn’t too far away. Let’s dive on into what March has been like for me…!

One Pandemic Year

March 20th was the 1-year anniversary of Animal Crossing. I feel like without it, Pandemic Life would have been a lot less tolerable.

This March marked the one year anniversary of Covid-19 causing a ruckus, to put it into happy terms. It’s been a rough year for almost everyone, but now that there are vaccines rolling out, it seems like people are more hopeful about the future. I’m definitely more excited about the rest of the year! I haven’t gotten my vaccine yet, but knowing that I now have the option to do so is cause enough to feel genuinely hopeful.

I’m hoping to be vaccinated before May so that I can spend Mother’s Day with my mom and sister worry-free! I know a ton of people that have gotten their shots and heard all the stories about how great/not great it is. I’m looking forward to the day I can tell my own vaccination story!

Birthday Boy and the St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

March is my husband’s birthday month, and this year he turned 27. On St. Patrick’s Day, he and a bunch of our friends got together for a multiple reason celebration (Birthdays, final divorce proceedings, good grades for the kids, etc.). I got there late because I had to work over for Green Way Day, a very busy day at my job, so when I got to the house it was obvious that I was the only sober person there.

By the time the night was over, however, I was exhausted from all the excitement. It was so much fun to hang out with friends we hadn’t seen in forever (of course, we were all responsible about it!). Seeing Matt have fun with his friends is also really nice. He doesn’t usually hang out with his friends in person, even before the pandemic, so it’s always fun to get together.

The week after was Matt’s actual birthday! We went to Brassica and enjoyed the sunny day outside on their patio. I was able to get him a Master Chief pin for his work bag. I’m pretty sure it’s limited edition, but I couldn’t tell you…all I know is that I was able to get it!! I also bought the two of us edible cookie dough from Doughp to share for his birthday dessert, but the package didn’t get there until the day after. He was still excited about it, however, which is all I was worried about!

Over the past few weeks, we’ve gotten lots of free dinners from friends and family thanks to Matt’s birthday. I don’t know what else he got from everyone, but I think he had a pretty great birthday regardless of what he received. I think he forgets sometimes that people love him a lot, so it’s always nice to see all the “Happy Birthday” messages people send him. Even though it annoys him to have his phone go off all day, I’m sure he feels the same way!

Ask Me What Time It Is

Oh hey, didn’t see you there…too busy checking the time…

On a whim, Matt and I got new smart watches. I have always wanted an Apple Watch, admittedly mostly to just check my notifications and the time without reaching for my phone, but also so that I could more accurately track my few and far between work out sessions (as well as my steps at work).

It turns out that we were able to get our watches on a little bit of a deal thanks to the Verizon people. We don’t have to pay nearly as much for them as I think we thought we would. That simple fact is one of the reasons I was perfectly fine with our impulse buy.

So far, the two of us are loving our watches! I’m not sure what kind of watch Matt got (it’s Samsung to match his phone), but I know he’s just as obsessed with his watch as I am mine. I’m still learning how to work it, so I’m sure I’ll keep you all updated on my learning curve on Twitter!

Nail Time

Lots of close-ups this month! As you may or may not be able to tell, I’m still learning…you should see my left hand…

Before the pandemic, I got my nails done regularly at various salons in Columbus. I love the feeling of being pampered (that’s the Leo in me!), so getting my nails done was one of the things that I did to feel as pampered and pretty as possible!

Once the salons closed because of the pandemic, I decided to let my nails do their thing. Now that salons are opening up again, I find that I’m still a little wary of going back. I work with my hands, and I touch dirty dishes and the like all day. I wash my hands constantly, but I’m still terrified of getting someone sick because of where I work. I also don’t want to pay for a full set and ruin my nails thanks to all the handwashing and hand sanitizer I use all day!!

Before I was old enough to go to the salon on my own (and before I was medicated for my ADHD), painting my nails was one of the things I did to center myself. It requires patience, a steady hand, and concentration. Of course, now that it’s 2021, there are so many different ways to do your nails that don’t require the pinpoint precision needed previously.

I never learned how to do the whole process of manicuring my own nails, just how to paint them. I made a point to teach myself how to do a manicure on my own so that I could justify buying the press-on nail stickers I’ve been seeing all over Facebook! I also just really wanted to learn how to take care of my own nails to save myself money in the long run.

My friend Mari introduced me to nail stickers and I bought a pack from Target to practice with before I bought gel versions. I didn’t want to mess up with gel nail stickers because they are much harder to get off than normal nail polish!

Vanity Table is a site that has been advertising on my Facebook feed for months, and this March I finally caved in and bought some items to do my nails. I really like their patterns and I really like how easy it seemed to apply their products, so I decided to give them a shot this past weekend. So far, they’re holding up fine! I’m sure that once I give them the proper 14 days to do their thing, I’ll want to write a blog about it.

Music Obsessions

lol what is my music taste

Remember when The Midnight released their Amazon Exclusive album, “Horror Show”? Well, I think they might be gearing up to release it on all the rest of the streaming services, because their lead single from the album, “Neon Medusa”, is on Spotify! I’m excited for this because I’ll be able to finally tell people to go check out “Horror Show” and they’ll be able to find it wherever they look!

This month’s playlist, in what seems to be a True Mary Pattern, was finished the day I’m posting this blog! I admittedly haven’t been listening to as much music as usual.

I’ve been obsessed with the Game Grumps’s playthrough of the first Danganronpa, so I threw my favorite song from the soundtrack on the playlist this month. It’s a very straightforward visual novel game, with a Phoenix Wright-like play style. I almost want to buy it, but the Game Grumps finished it this month, so I don’t really feel like I need it!

New songs on the playlist include the Pokemon anniversary cover of “Only Wanna Be With You” by Post Malone, a Bruno Mars/Anderson .Paak/Silk Sonic track that takes the listener back to the Doo Wop/Motown days, the always-winning-never-losing Lil Nas X, and a track from the Weeknd’s rerelease of “House of Balloons” that isn’t quite new, but sounds different enough for me to call it so.

As always, I’ve thrown on some old songs I enjoy and some new-to-me songs that I’ve found this month as well. Hopefully you like what I’ve thrown together for you! Catch the playlist here!

There’s been more that’s happened this month, but I admittedly can’t remember it all. March is different from January and February in the sense that it’s always a longer feeling month than the ones before it. That being said, it still went by fast for me. I know I say it a lot, but as I get older, time just gets faster! Pretty soon, I’ll be 57 still complaining to you all about how time just flies!

If you’d like to keep up with my day to day life, feel free to follow me on Twitter! I admittedly haven’t tweeted that much this month…but of course, that means nothing to me…I still tweet every day! I also have a ko-fi, where I collect tips for the future self-publishing of the novel I’m working on. Feel free to leave me a tip if you’d like, but never feel obligated to do so.

If you have any suggestions on what you’d like to read from me, please slide into my Twitter DMs and tell me all about it! I want to write even more short stories for you all to read, and I want to review products and media as well. If you’ve got a suggestion, throw it my way!

I’ll see you all here next week! Enjoy the last few days of March!
