Hello everyone! This month has been a very full one. What with the Super Bowl taking over my job (great job, Bengals), Baby G constantly moving in my tummy, and all of the adulting that I’ve been trying to get done, this month has been so busy. I have SO much to talk about, but I’ll just hit the highlights for y’all!
Who Knew Babies Needed So Much Stuff
If you don’t follow me on Instagram, you might have missed it…but Baby G is a girl! Since finding that out, I’ve been trying to get the baby registry together. I’m lucky that I know a good amount of people that have already given us some stuff, and plan on giving us more in the future. That being said…I didn’t realize how much stuff babies need!
Looking at checklists online gave me an idea, but sitting down and registering stuff really put it into perspective for me; I have no idea what a baby really needs to survive. Sure, they need somewhere to sleep and eat and so on, but there’s so much to choose from that it gets a little overwhelming! I have four things on the registry right now because I got too overwhelmed trying to figure out what’s necessary and what’s not.
I am so fortunate to have friends that can help me weed out the good baby items from the bad. I’m also lucky that I have time to figure it all out. July is coming fast, but not fast enough for me to feel anxious about getting the registry done ASAP.
Planning to Move
This May, we’re moving in with our lovely friends, the Bentons. They have a finished basement that has our names all over it, and all four of us need to financially get out ducks in a row…so we’re moving! I’m not very excited, only because I don’t like the idea of living in a basement for a year or two. My plants might suffer, and it makes me nervous to think of Baby G living her day to day in a place with little to no natural light.
Unfortunately for me, I was outvoted! The financial pros outweigh any of the cons, and the logic behind the move makes sense. We plan on buying a house with all the money we’ll save living with our friends, and at the end of the day, that’s what Matt and I want. The temporary discomfort will be worth it, theoretically!
Moving while pregnant is the opposite of what I told Matt when we moved into where we lived now (I literally said “we’re not moving again, and I’m not moving while pregnant”), but we have the biggest, best support system in the world. I’m hoping we can exchange beer and pizza for moving help in the spring, but for now the plan is to get rid of stuff we don’t actually need. We’re essentially moving into a studio apartment, so we have a lot of downsizing to do before spring. I’m the one that has a lot of stuff, so eventually I’ll have to start going through everything and getting rid of furniture and items that I don’t need anymore!
My big worry is the basement; everything we put down in our basement is essentially water damaged (thank you, rain) so we have to get rid of it all. I can’t lift anything (thank you, Baby G) so I can’t exactly do all that on my own. There’s also the never ending problem of spiders, which Matt and I are both equally terrified of. When Damian was around he would be in charge of basement stuff, but now he’s not there to be our spider liaison! I guess we’ll have to figure out what to do with all the boxes down there in the long run…
Pokémon Pokémon Pokémon
For Valentine’s Day/6-year anniversary, Matt bought me Pokémon Legends: Arceus. I’ve been playing it a lot and I’ve ended up really enjoying it! I know I touched on Pokémon last week, but besides sleep and work, it’s what I’ve been putting my energy into. The part that I thought I wasn’t going to like, the open world, is the part that I’ve been enjoying the most. That’s partially why I’m so excited about the announcement of Generation 9, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet!
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are going to be open world as well. I think that Arceus was a test to see if people would actually like the idea of a truly open world Pokémon game, and since most people enjoyed it, they really leaned into the concept for the new generation. Arceus was definitely the blueprint for Scarlet and Violet.
I know people are upset that Arceus had a very short lifespan, but I honestly don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Arceus, while a mainline game, still felt like a pit stop into the newest chapter of the Pokémon franchise. I’m super excited to see how Scarlet and Violet play, and I’m just as excited to see more news about the location and the new Pokémon!
Music Obsessions
This month, I have been listening to a lot of old-to-me songs. I haven’t really listened to a lot of new stuff, although I am in love with Florence + the Machine’s new song, “King”. Most of the time when I listen to music I’m driving, and when I’m driving I’m usually going to work, which is a 10 minute drive. I don’t have a lot of time to listen to new stuff in 10 minutes!
Although I’ve been listening to old-to-me songs, they’re all still good for the February playlist. I threw in some Linkin Park, a remix to “Take My Breath” by the Weeknd, one of my favorite Bjork songs, and a good handful more! Go ahead and check it out here, if you’re interested!
Well, that’s about it for February. It’s been a busy month, and I think March is going to be more of the same. I’m sure I’ll have some interesting stuff to talk about as time goes on, so stay tuned for the next monthly update!
