Or, the Feeling of Writing

Some people write and produce beautiful sunsets, creating art with their fingertips and letting their mind craft something soft and poetic, something one might have quietly whispered to them in a dream.

Writing to me comes in waves of violence, daggers digging into my skull, heart aflame with passion as if I’ll explode if I can’t get it all out right this second right now. And if I don’t get it out? It’s lost to the Void, gone forever. It’s a curse compared to the blessings of others.

I wish I could create like the other writers do, effortless and well spoken. I have yet to write something that doesn’t scream later on. Jagged edges, pinpricks. While others write in smooth curves and straight lines, I write with razor sharp chaos and painful zig-zags.

The one thing that keeps me writing is the one thing that keeps all of us moving in life: determination. I’m determined to soften those jagged edges, smooth over those wrinkles and make something beautiful. I’m determined to create a sunrise from a dark stormy night, and it’s okay if it’s still a little grey on the edges. The sun will keep rising, and I will too.

There’s no way I can stop writing. It’s part of my being. I may not ever stop the waves from being so chaotic, but that won’t stop me from scribbling down the inspiration when it hits. The edges of my final drafts will be ripped and torn but they will be written.

Hey y’all! Thanks for reading! I’ve been thinking about what writing used to mean for me and what it means to me now, and this came out. I’m not sure if I would call it a poem, but it’s not a short story…maybe a creative blurb? Short and sweet and to the point this Monday.

I’ve been thinking of new ways to keep it interesting on here. Last week I timed myself writing a prompt, and this week I took a moment to reflect on how I approach writing. Who knows what this lil peanut brain will come up with next week?

In the meantime, let me know if you want me to tackle any prompts or topics via Twitter! I’m always down to write something new! Also, let me know what you want to see on this blog if you guys have any particular things you like or dislike about what I’m doing so far. I love the “clap” system on here but more constructive criticism is never a bad thing :) Either way, I’ll see y’all again next week!

I write stories, as well as music, movie, product reviews and monthly wrap-up journals. Basically, if you can think it, I can write about it.
