April 2022
Hello everyone! This month has been a very busy one for the Golubich household. We’ve been packing and getting ready to move, all while feeling a little under the weather! If we’re not at home packing, we’re at work, well, working. It’s been nice to have a lot to do although it’s been hard making sure we get everything done by the end of the month.
Let’s see what’s been going on this month…
*Tails Voice* Sonic!
I saw Sonic the Hedgehog 2 the weekend it came out. I was so excited for it, and it did not disappoint in the slightest. Just like with the first one, I was smiling the entire time! Between the introduction of Tails and Knuckles, the B Plot of Tom’s sister-in-law Rachel getting married (which was 100% for the adults, let’s be real), and of course, all of the action of a good Sonic story, I was overwhelmed with how much I adored this film. Even the cheesier parts were fun and not too over the top for me to be taken out of the movie.
Colleen O’Shaughnessey, the current voice of Tails in the video games and animated series, did SUCH a good job standing out in a cast full of untraditional voice actors. Idris Elba and Ben Schwartz were fantastic as Knuckles and Sonic, but I’m honestly impressed that they were able to deliver just as great of a performance as the more professional voice actress they were acting alongside of. I truly hope the overwhelmingly positive reaction to O’Shaughnessey’s casting and performance opens the door for more traditional voice actors to break out into Hollywood.
All in all, I think any Sonic fan, new and old, will absolutely adore this movie. It was way more focused on the Sonic universe in general as opposed to the first movie. While I loved the set-up of Sonic’s movie universe in the first installement, I was looking forward to seeing how they really approached the more classic Sonic elements, like the Master and Chaos Emeralds, as well as Dr. Eggman’s huge robots and how the trio of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles worked together on the big screen. I was happy with what they delivered, and I think anyone else who liked the first movie (or was on the fence about it) will find that this movie is very entertaining and exactly what I think the fanbase wanted.
Plus, I just love Knuckles a lot, so seeing my favorite member of the trio on the big screen was good enough for me! Also, stick around for the mid-credits scene if you’re a huge fan of the 3D Sonic games…I lost my MIND when they showed the setup for the next movie!!
Small Baby Update
I spoke about Miss Olivia Jo last blog post, but we recently saw her during our last appointment and I was shocked at how much my little Voldemort-looking baby developed in just a month! Of course, I know time flies when it comes to babies growing. I was just so surprised that she actually looked like a baby this time!
Matt thinks she has my nose. I think she looks just like I did when I was a newborn already, and she’s not even all the way done growing inside of me yet! Having a mini me has always been a concern of mine (I was a CRAZY child), but I think I’ll be able to handle it…after all, I know how crazy I was (and still am), so maybe I’ll be able to handle Olivia if she’s just like me! Here’s hoping, anyway…!
Either way, it was really nice to see Baby G this past appointment and see how big she’s gotten. She’s been moving a lot, which is normal of course, but the kicks are stronger now! I’ve been thinking about what she’s doing in there a lot, and it’s making me excited to meet her in July to see her in action with my own eyes. I’m going into the third trimester in about a week (!!!) so we’re getting there!
Sick For Easter
I bought a Honeybaked Ham for Easter Dinner with my family…and then I got sick. I was mostly sad about not being able to see my sister and dad for the holiday, but man I was bummed that I couldn’t eat that ham fresh!!
I’m grateful that it wasn’t Covid. Just a nice, old fashioned head cold! I know exactly where and when I got it, so I wasn’t too worried about going to get treated for it or anything. I tried to get my shift covered, but of course, getting a shift covered on a holiday weekend is impossible. Instead, I went and opened the store with my mask on, trying desperately to stay awake until the other servers got to the store. Once they did, I went home and slept on and off for about 14 hours!
When I officially woke up the next day, I felt SO much better than the day before. I still have a cough a week later, but now that the flowers and the trees are blooming I’m pretty sure my allergies are the reason the cough won’t go away. I feel fine otherwise!
So, I didn’t get to do Easter stuff the day of, which is fine. Since I felt okay the next day, Matt and I went to my dad’s house to pick up leftovers and see him, his husband, and all the cats. It was nice to visit them if only for a few moments (and I did get to eat the ham, so I was extra happy!).
Packing and Moving and Cleaning
We move in less than a week! It’s been a struggle getting everything packed up, mostly because I can’t lift anything or bend over too much. What I can reach, I’ve thrown into boxes! I have a lot more to pack of my own stuff, but I’ve packed up a LOT of the house on my own, since I got Matt sick while I was sick, not to mention he’s been working on the bedroom area of the basement we’re moving to. I’m hopeful that this week we can get everything else packed, that way when we get the Uhaul we can just throw everything in it and go.
We have the entire month of May to officially move out, but Matt wants to be as moved out as possible within the first weekend of May so that we can deep clean the house (and hopefully get some of our deposit back!). I’m thinking that it’s possible to do this, despite me hating the whole process. I’ve never liked moving, and I’ve never liked cleaning. Luckily, we have people that are willing to help us with both things, so for one of the only times in my life I am okay asking for help.
My personal goal is to get everything moved out by the day before Mother’s Day so that we can celebrate the day with our moms. Then, I want to clean clean clean until the very last second so that we can get that deposit back.
The space we’re moving into needs a little TLC as well, since it’s a basement that hasn’t really been super duper deep cleaned by us quite yet. I want to redo the bathroom, mostly putting in more light and making it a little less scary for middle-of-the-night trips. The kitchen down there is more like a bar, seeing as it doesn’t have an oven/stove or a working fridge, so we’ll have to buy something to cook on/in and a working fridge so that we can use it as an actual kitchen. Olivia’s room is one of the only unfinished parts of the basement, so we’ll have to finish it before she arrives. This is the main thing I’m worried about because if we don’t have it finished, we can’t move any of her things into the room. Where is she gonna go if we don’t put that furniture together?!
Of course, I’m saying all of this not to be negative, but to make sure that the three of us can be happy and healthy while we’re living in our best friend’s basement. I’m forever grateful to them for opening their house to us when we needed it, and that won’t be something I take for granted, like, ever. I’m just excited to try to make the best out of an unfortunate financial situation like the one Matt and I find ourselves in right now. Hopefully everything will go smoothly so that we can be nice and comfortable by the time Olivia gets here!
Music Obsessions
There’s been some new music drops I’ve been excited about this month! The Midnight released a new track, “Change Your Heart or Die”, which is a new, more arena rock-ish sound than what I’m used to from them. I love when my favorite artists switch their sound up slightly while staying true to what made them popular in the first place, and this track is a great example of that.
Megan Thee Stallion released “Plan B” like a week or so ago and it’s fantastic. Very much an anthem for bad bitches, as she is prone to writing. That’s why we all love her! FrankJavCee released “AUTOMATIC OVERDRIVE” a few days ago and it’s very 90s electronica, which I love. I can’t wait to see what his next album sounds like. If it’s anything like this track, it’s going to be a good album.
The other tracks are songs that I’ve had stuck in my head throughout the month, a song that my work husband Chaz put me on to (which the Weeknd samples in his newest album), and a song from a new YouTuber that I’ve found that analyzes and remixes songs. That’s about it for April! Thanks for reading, as always. I’m hoping that May is full of adventure and excitement as the weather turns to much warmer temperatures. I’m also hoping that all of Matt and I’s hard work pays off so that we can be happy and comfortable in our new place!
